Personal Interests
While I enjoy making music, playing guitar, drawing, photography and hiking, a lot of my personal interests intertwine closely with my professional passions. If I were to describe them with two attributes, they would be creativity and complex systems.
Creativity
Creativity, in my view, is the skillful recombination of existing ideas. While this might not sound romantic, it requires a significant ability to recall related memories that fit the current project. Every research endeavor can be considered a creative process. Can an AI be creative? Absolutely. An LLM (Large Language Model) learns and overfits on a massive amount of data and recalls this information when generating outputs, often conditioned by specific inputs.
Complex Systems
As the name suggests, a complex system is an AI, device or algorithm that isn’t easily understood at first glance. It involves interdependent processes where numerous parameters must be fine-tuned to achieve the desired outcome and non-obvious strategies have to be found for getting there.
These interests not only enhance my professional work but also keep me engaged after hours.
